BA-1 randomly skipping MIDI notes

Hi there,
I’m using BA-1 with the Chiptune Legacy preset pack and “[AR] Get The Power” and I have the problem that when paying back MIDI, some notes are randomly skipped. Tests:

  • This never happens when recording MIDI, only during playback.
  • The first couple of times, notes are skipped. When having played the sequence a couple of times, the notes are played.
  • When freezing or rendering the track, the notes are NEVER played  , which is probably the worst part. I tested this many times.
  • Tested with other instruments: None have that problem.
  • Tested with other sounds out of BA-1: Most don’t have that problem, but some do, especially out of the Chiptune Legacy preset pack, but not exclusively.

Here’s a short video demonstrating the problem: https://youtu.be/GW0E2JJZSKM
First you hear the sound as intended with a “warmed up” MIDI playback that doesn’t skip notes anymore, then you here the frozen track.

Please provide a fix for this!

Thanks
Nik

I should add that I’m using Reaper, currently v7.54, on a Mac.

Does this happen when you record the audio in real time, rather than render offline? What are your audio settings?

I’m not sure what you mean by “in real time” vs. “offline”, but I tried

  • rendering the track in-place via track context menu [=> only renders partially]
  • freezing the track via context menu [=> only renders partially]
  • rendering a stem of the track from the file menu as a standalone file as MP3 [=> only renders partially on first attempt], then as WAV with different bit depths like 8/16/24/32 [=> they all produce empty files], as AIFF [=> produces empty file], then again as MP3 [=> now ALSO produces empty file]
  • a stem of a bus track that receives all other tracks incl the Chiptune track [=> produced incomplete rendering of the Chiptune sound]
  • a rendering of the master track [=> no audible chiptune sound on it]

Just like in my first description: It never renders correctly, although the error is somewhat indeterministic (sometimes incomplete, somtimes no audible output at all).

I’ve just DM’d you.

Thanks! I just had the time for a more detailed test and responded to your DM. Bottom line: It still occurs, also in brand new projects.
