I will try to keep it short.
I really love smooth operator and wanted to makes some suggestions
- Global Bypass: Make a proper button named BYPASS please. I discovered the one on Smooth Operator while wildly clicking everywhere(no, I don’t always read the manuals, especially on tools that should be more intuitive to use in my opinion).
I find some things that are well established can be taken over. It’s not like it is necessary to call On-Off “Baby awake-Baby asleep” just to do something “new”
-
Autogain: you guessed it, why not call it AUTOGAIN? Unless I missed something and two opposing Arrows are the universal symbol for Autogain compensation
-
Also Autogain related: please add an option for a continuous Autogain compensation. When doing more drastical moves I find it handy to not be needing to manually engage Autogain every time something changes.
Of course, if everyone finds these ideas, not useful forget about what I said.
Hey SuStudio! Thank you for your suggestions, we appreciate it. Just wanted to clarify a few things.
-
The global bypass on our plugins is linked to the Baby Audio logo although I see what you mean by a more transparent button - it can be easy to miss! Additionally, some DAWs like Logic Pro have a dedicated bypass for plugins.
-
About Autogain - broadly speaking, during testing, a continuous auto gain caused a lot of consistency and performance issues that didn’t live up to the “Pro” name. That’s why we settled with a more stable, fixed gain compensation.
Cheers!
Hi there.
I hear ya.
Thats why i at the end more or less remarked that i am talking only for myself!
”Additionally, some DAWs like Logic Pro have a dedicated bypass for plugins.”
Its no biggie. In ableton i find it a bit confusing in bigger sessions when some plugins have a dedicated Bypass and other dont. It adds extra steps when in Development i am no expert but cant imagine its that hard to implement a “In” or “Bypass” switch which is universally accepted and easy to see.
2) I totally get it thats why is suggested an “Option” so when working on a serious session i can turn it off and more crucially it could be made as such that it is deactivated automatically when Rendering .
But Until i have found the sound i want i find it useful
I find that some plugins like Michelangelo and especially Powair have a fantastically working Autogain so i know it is somehow possible to a degree. In Powair i many times had to check cause i thought the comp is bypassed cause the Autogain works so well.
Anyhow. It is just a wish. I am sure you know better than me what you are doing.
If it was different i would not trust your tools on my music but i do trust them.
(some of my text got highlighted and i don`t know why but i also cant find a way to change it…)
Cheers!
As a follow up – re: BA Button for bypass — I am able to midi link a controller trigger to that “button” via Reason 13. So if I needed a global bypass on button press, I can do it – I have a video of it as well using Transit 2.
